5 Best Home Security Cameras

Arlo Pro – Best Wireless Home Security Camera

The Arlo Pro from Netgear is our favorite wireless home security camera. It is a fantastic little all-around camera that works inside or out, and it’s super-easy to install.

It may not be the cheapest but we believe it is a very good investment for improving your home security. You can purchase the camera on its own but then you would also need to purchase a base station.

  • Easy to install and setup
  • 100% wire-free operation
  • Sensitive motion detector
  • Works both indoors and outside
  • May need to purchase base station separate adding to price
  • Limited configurations and settings

Ring Spotlight Cam – Best Outside Camera

The Ring brand became famous for their doorbell cameras but have now branched out and added its smart surveillance technology to this compact outdoor security camera.

It can get a little difficult when trying to find power sources for outside cameras, and Ring have made it easier by offering three options. You can purchase battery powered, hardwired, or even solar.

It also has a built-in, motion-activated spotlight that will stop trespassers in their tracks. Plus added features like two-way audio, a 110-decibel siren, and integration with Amazon Alexa make this camera a leader in outdoor surveillance.

  • Multiple power options
  • Motion detector
  • Voice control with Alexa
  • Loud siren
  • Pricey

Vimtag P1 Camera – Best Easy to Use

This is a nice and small yet powerful and easy to use little security camera for your home security needs. Better still, it is very reasonably priced too.

You get pan-and-tilt functionality, two-way voice, 4x digital zoom, and clear night vision.

What we like about this camera is how easy it is to setup. Just plug-and-play. The Vimtag P1 is plug-and-play with built-in Wi-Fi to make setup a breeze.

  • Very easy to set up
  • Reasonably priced
  • Great functionality
  • Built-in WiFi
  • No smart home compatibility

Canary Flex – Best Weatherproof Camera

The Canary Flex looks great, is incredibly well made and feels extremely durable. It has a 360-degree magnetic swivel base that allows you to sit the camera on a flat surface indoors as well a wall mount it to an interior or external wall using the supplied hardware.

Canary claims that a full charge of the unit can last for up to two months of wireless use.

Just download the app and follow the on-screen instructions to set the camera up.

  • Very easy to set up
  • Customizable day and night modes
  • Quality footage and audio
  • The Secure Mount comes at extra cost to mount outside

Blink XT Home Security Camera

While the Blink XT may not be as feature-rich as some other security cameras, it’s a reliable wireless indoor/outdoor camera that covers the essentials and even includes free cloud storage.

The wireless XT runs on 2 AA batteries which Blink claims will last for 2 years of “standard” use.

One problem we did notice is that although day-time video was pretty good, the night-time video was a little grainy.

Overall, this is a great little affordable camera. Build quality is a bit of a concern for outdoor use as it is super lightweight, but I am confident it will be fine if it is not fully exposed to gale force winds or vandals/intruders.

  • Versatile
  • Totally wireless
  • Excellent battery life
  • Buggy app
  • WiFi range could be better
